Maimonides Cemetery is one of the oldest most distinguished Jewish cemeteries in the Metropolitan New York area. Since 1861, Maimonides has created intimate cemeteries in park-like settings, conveniently located in Brooklyn and in Elmont. We offer reasonably priced grave sites and caring and compassionate staff who can to assist you in selecting a final resting place and subsequent care.
Planning and Care
Maimonides Cemetery has choice locations available for single or family burials and a dedicated Interfaith burial area. Planning for the inevitable in advance of need is thoughtful and considerate. It allows the concerned parties to participate in the selection of the cemetery plot and makes it possible to honor preferences and wishes. Pre-need arrangements can be made with a funeral director to further ease arrangements.
We offer care and planting for existing grave sites. Planting is offered after the grave has settled sufficiently. We will work with you to customize your arrangements.
Grave care is offered on an annual basis or as perpetual care. Annual care is billed each January for the upcoming season of landscaping care. Perpetual care is a one time endowment that is designed to generate sufficient income to care for the lot in perpetuity. This can be arranged at any time. The costs are established in December for the upcoming year. All graves and plots benefit from the attention of Annual or Perpetual care. We encourage you to explore all the options to maintain the plot in the manner that you are comfortable. The cemetery reserves the right to remove overgrown plantings on neglected lots, which may interfere with the cemetery operation, access, or any other lots.
All graves must be marked with a permanent granite marker. Depending on the lot, either headstone or footstone monuments are required. Family plots require a family stone and footstones. All monuments must be approved for size and suitability according to the current cemetery rules and regulations and cemetery discretion. All monuments must come from a reputable monument dealer. The monument dealer is responsible for submitting design plans and requesting a foundation. All foundations are provided by the cemetery. The monument dealer must be insured and have insured setters to place the stones, when approved. The cemetery does not provide or sell monuments. The cemetery cannot maintain monuments. We will gladly share the names of local monument dealers or you can ask your funeral director.
If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to call or email us.
